چکیده
The article presents information on the biological resources of bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn) in coniferous forests Altai Krai. Bracken is one most widespread ferns It often dominates grass cover both deciduous and forests. author gives a morphological description plant, characterizes features growth development, considers influence environmental factors (temperature, humidity, lighting, anthropogenic activity) distribution abundance this species. provides data productivity different natural zones Russia. regularities changes were revealed depending habitat conditions. In Krai, commercial harvesting carried out various types Long-term exploitation same lands leads to decrease disruption populations’ structure. To study current state populations identify stocks bracken, we examined (fir pine forests) mass - Priobsky Bor area Salair ridge zone. area, 68 key sites groups forest established by random sampling. At each site, geobotanical descriptions community out, number fronds, density standing, projective average weight frond determined. obtained are extrapolated entire area. Studies show an extremely uneven individual regions. During research period, biological, economic operational determined recommendations given amount annual harvest

Isolation of an active glucoside in bracken fern, Pteridium aquilinum.
An active glucoside that enhanced release of histamine from rat peritoneal mast cells was isolated from a toxic fraction of bracken fern, Pteridium aquilinum, by partition column chromatography on Sephadex G-25. It was a yellowish amorphous powder on freeze-drying, readily soluble in water or ethanol, and insoluble in ether. It was hydrolysed with beta-glucosidase to release D-glucose. It was a...
متن کاملObservations on the Microanatomy of the Spermatozoid of the Bracken Fern (Pteridium aquilinum)
Salient features of structure of the spermatozoid of a fern (Pteridium aquilinum) have been determined by a combination of visual and ultraviolet microscopy, with electron microscopy of shadow-cast whole mounts and thin sections, using magnifications up to but not exceeding 50,000 diameters. Attention has been concentrated on the arrangement rather than on the internal details of the various pa...
متن کاملCarcinogenic and mutagenic activities of milk from cows fed bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum).
Carcinogenicity, toxicity, and mutagenicity of the milk of bracken fern (BF)-fed cows were determined. Four Brown Swiss cows were fed a BF-containing diet, and two cows were fed a normal hay-grain diet. The milk obtained was fed to rats as either fresh or freeze-dried powdered milk mixed with grain diet: 9 of 34 fed whole milk and 11 of 56 fed powdered milk diet developed small intestine, kidne...
متن کاملQuercetin, a rat intestinal and bladder carcinogen present in bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum).
Albino noninbred weanling male and female rats were fed a basic grain diet (Group 1) or a basic diet supplemented with 33% bracken fern [BF (Group 2)] or 0.1% quercetin [purity, > 99% (Group 3)] for 58 weeks. The quantities of quercetin and kaempferol (a close structural analog) in BF as glycosides were determined to be 0.57 and 1.1 g, respectively, per kg of dried BF. Estimated mean total cumu...
متن کاملTumor induction in germ-free rats fed bracken (Pteridium aquilinum).
This study indicated that there was no significant difference in the incidence of intestinal tumors between germ-free and conventional rats fed a diet containing bracken, suggesting that gut microflora did not play a definite role in bracken tumorigenesis. However, bracken induced exclusively sarcoma but no adenocarcinoma in germ-free rats, whereas it induced predominantly adenocarcinoma in con...
